How to keep weight off….
You have reached your goal and went shopping for brand new clothes…Now you’re wondering how to keep the weight off. Statistics show that most people gain at least some of the weight back, and get discouraged. Don’t let yourself become a statistic!
Losing the weight is just half the battle, the real challenge is to keep it off. It is important to learn how to keep the weight off in a healthy way in order to avoid becoming a yo-yo dieter. I recommend that you think of the process of losing weight as a new lifestyle instead of thinking of it as a sacrifice. Doing this will make the journey easier.
There are other ways to accomplish this, and they are not as difficult as you might think….
And the tips are:
Just because you’ve lost the weight, doesn’t mean you can go back to your old bad habits. Saturated fats, sugar and excess alcohol should stay off your shopping list. You should be eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, carbohydrates, and don’t forget about portions.
Do not skip meals –
Skipping meals is never a good idea. Not when you’re trying to lose weight, not when you’re trying to keep the weight off. If your body goes into starvation mode, it will hold on to fat, and that’s something you do not want after all the effort and work you put on to reach your ideal weight. You might end up grabbing not such healthy foods just because you’re hungry.
Exercise should still be part of your daily schedule. Workout at least three times per week, walk as often as you can, take the stairs, ride your bike, and if you work in an office and you spend too much time sitting down, you should get off the chair and walk around. Join a gym, or try a new sport; anything that keeps you moving.
Remind yourself –
Why did you want to lose the weight? How do you feel now that you did? It is important now to keep the reasons in mind, as well as to remind yourself of all the hard work you put in to lose the weight. Hopefully that will keep you motivated to not gain the weight back.
While I don’t recommend that you weight yourself often while you’re trying to lose weight, I think that in order to keep it off, you should do that. Keeping track of your weight, as long as you don’t obsess about it, is a good way to make sure you’re not getting off track. Remember though, that if you gain 1 kilo, it might be just water weight. It is best to weight yourself in the mornings right after you wake up. If you gain weight because of the holidays, just go back to your healthy life style as soon as you can.
Keep a diary –
Write down what you eat. Keeping track of what you eat is a good way to make sure you don’t eat the wrong foods. You can also write about your goals and how you plan to achieve them.
In order to keep yourself motivated to keep the weight off, it might be a good idea to set some new goals. For example, my new goal is to get more muscle definition. You might want to run a marathon, or be able to do over 10 pull ups. Anything that might challenge you and keep you active is good.
Find new healthy recipes –
When I decided to go vegan, the first thing I did was to search the internet for recipes. I wanted to keep my new life style interesting and varied. The key word for you should be “Healthy” I would try to avoid searching for low fat. I found it fun, and effective. Searching for vegan recipes, made me try ingredients I had never tried before. I’ve been vegan now for four years, and I’m still searching, and finding delicious recipes every week. I really encourage you to try it, and be surprised as how fun it can be to eat healthy foods.
Having a cheat day is a great way to reward yourself for all the hard work you’ve done to lose weight. What does a cheat day mean? During my cheat day, I might eat a slice of cake, or have a glass of Soda. I try not to overdo it because to tell you the truth, I don’t feel like eating anything unhealthy. Once, I did eat too many potato chips, and I felt sick. However, I do like to have a piece of dark chocolate once in a while. I don’t feel bad because I know I eat healthily and exercise enough that a piece of chocolate won’t make a difference.
A healthy lifestyle is something everyone should be aiming to follow. Once your body gets used to eating healthy delicious foods, it won’t accept junk. I tell you from experience, and in my opinion, nothing tastes better than fresh fruits and vegetables.
